theme
Hebrews chapter 11 is often called the "Hall of Faith" because it highlights the forward-looking faith of biblical figures. The author begins the chapter by defining faith and then recounts the stories of numerous Old Testament heroes—like Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, and others—who, despite facing tremendous challenges and often not seeing the fulfillment of God's promises in their lifetimes, trusted in His plan. Their faith in God’s future promises led them to act in obedience, and their examples serve as models for current believers, assuring us that God’s promises will ultimately be realized, even if they are not seen in this life.
key verse
11:1 Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
