IN THIS LESSON
summary
The Teacher continues to reflects on the futility of life given the inevitable reality of death. The teacher laments that regardless of how wise or foolish a person, he will die and be forgotten. Furthermore, he laments that everything he has worked to achieve, build, and accumulate in life will be given to someone else who did not work for them and might squander them. Ultimately, the Teacher concludes that the only true enjoyment in life is found in the simple pleasures—eating, drinking, and finding contentment in one’s work, gifts that come from God.
